Applicants must hold a Master's degree or equivalent from a university in the field of Natural Sciences before starting the PhD program in Molecular Life Science.

Application Process

Please fill out the online application form of the Life Science Zurich Graduate School.

Next deadlines are 1 May and 1 November

Evaluation and Assessment Procedure

Applications are evaluated by the admission committee. Selected candidates are invited for online interviews in mid December and in-person visits in Zurich in early January (week 3)  for the application deadline of 1 November. For the application deadline 1 May online interviews will take place in June (week 24) and in-person visits in July (week 28).

Invited candidates will have the opportunity to meet with group leaders of their choice to discuss possible areas of research. Accommodation and travel expenses are reimbursed by the program. Accepted candidates are informed shortly after the interviews and should start their PhD project within six months of acceptance to the program.

Candidates accepted to a PhD program are automatically accepted to the other PhD programs of the LSZGS and can change the program if the chosen PhD position is closer to the topic of another PhD program.

Applicants accepted for the program will have to register with either the University of Zurich or ETH Zurich, depending on the affiliation of their future research group.
